Leavenworth Mountain Bike Trail Guide

Leavenworth has so much more to offer mountain bikers than a quaint Bavarian themed mountain town, with many of the Washington’s best mountain bike trails a short drive away. There are great singletrack mountain bike trails that are rideable from town as well as some downhill trails that offer great shuttle-accessed riding. Leavenworth is only a two and a half hour drive from Seattle (and evo Seattle), too, making it a great weekend mountain bike getaway. The mountain biking in leavenworth is some of the best in Washington state because of its mix of great flow and exposed alpine singletrack.

Freund
Intermediate | 6.4 Miles | 2,645' Climb | 2,232' descent

The trails at Freund Creek are a ton of fun, with a steady climb followed by a flow-filled descent. The Freund Trail is the main mountain bike trail here, with a couple more options on the Freund Ridge, Rosy Boa, and For The Boys trails. From the trailhead, just outside of town, Freund climbs in a counterclockwise direction up the road, then turning onto singletrack. The descent is filled with awesome berms. Descending via Rory Boa, the berms are larger and steeper, the exposure is greater, and there are awesome views down to Leavenworth. For The Boys, meanwhile drops straight back into town.

Icicle Ridge & 4th of July Trail
Advanced | 15 Miles | 5,280' CLimb | 6,820' descent

These two trails are big, gnarly, and hard to access. The reward, however, is 10 straight miles of descending almost 7,000’ of vertical drop. Most mountain bikers shuttle this trail, parking at the 4th of July Trail, and climbing to the Icicle Ridge trail. It takes four or five hours of pushing or carrying a bike to reach the top, so come prepared with food and water. The descent is long, and technical.

Typical Weather & Riding Conditions

The typical mountain bike riding season in the Leavenworth area is from May through October. Thus depends a lot on when the snow starts falling in the winter, and how quickly it melts out in the spring. In the summer conditions can be quite dry and dusty. Summer rainfall makes the dirt at these Leavenworth mountain bike trails, tacky, fast, and awesome.
