Newly redesigned for 2014, the Black Diamond AMPerage Skis are fully rockered in the tip and tail for drifty powder turns, while the tail has been stiffened up past the contact point for stomping landings and stability on high speed out runs. Additionally, Black Diamond is using ABS sidewall construction throughout their line, resulting in better power transmission from boot to ski, and significantly better edging power on hard snow. The new AMPerage is a fantastic powder and big mountain performer, while still holding its own on the groomers and carving hard pack comfortably.
Rocker – By tuning the rise and length of tip and tail rocker to each ski's intended use, Black Diamond are able to dial in the exact character they want - from deep-snow specialists to hybrid fun-shapes. They have grouped rockered ski profiles into three categories - Rocker, Semi-Rocker and Traditional based on the tip or tail's rise length.
165 cm – Tip 357 mm Rocker / Tail 285 mm Rocker
175 cm – Tip 378 mm Rocker / Tail 303 mm Rocker
185 cm – Tip 400 mm Rocker / Tail 320 mm Rocker
195 cm – Tip 422 mm Rocker / Tail 337 mm Rocker
New Flex – Stiffened beyond the contact point in the tail for easier landings and more ollie power.
3D Sandwich Construction – The Big Mountain construction has the most geometric advantage in order to handle the higher torsional loads of wider skis.
Formula One Technology™ – F1 Tech is used for skis larger than 100 mm underfoot. This technology requires three major ribs for longitudinal stiffness and reduced weight.
3D CNC Wood Core: Poplar – A good balance of pop (energy return) with a classic, smooth feel
New Ski Construction: Pre-Preg Fiberglass – New factory, new construction: All Black Diamond skis are now built using state-of-the-art, clean pre-preg fiberglass. Pre-preg allows Black Diamond to control the exact amount of epoxy resin used in each ski, in order to maximize the fiber's contribution to strength and stiffness. This enables weight reduction while retaining strength, precision and consistency in each ski.
New Ski Construction: ABS Sidewalls – All Black Diamond skis now feature ABS sidewall construction, resulting in lighter, higher performing skis.
P-Tex 4000 Base – High-speed sintered bases with a fine crosshatch, state-of-the-art stone-grind finish provide the best balance of durability, glide and ease of maintenance.
Power Edges – Thick edge for freeride durability.
New Solar-Preheated Presses – Black Diamond pre-heats their brand new ski presses using solar power.
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.
