Volkl Kuro Skis 2009: The Volkl Kuro is humungous and the natural-looking, wood-grain graphics may give it the appearance of a gentle giant, but looks are deceiving. One of the toughest skis out there, the Kuro fully embodies its Japanese namesake as it knifes through powder and slices crud with ease. Armed with a multi-layer wood core, tough box power construction and an anchored edge system, the Kuro is a weapon. The Kuro also boasts Volkl’s Elongated Low Tip Profile, aka: Rocker. All things considered, the Kuro is as unstoppable as a Schwarzenegger/Chuck Norris ukulele duo in Maui. Awesome.
TOUGH BOX is constructed by wrapping the POWER CONSTRUCTION wood core with layers of fibreglass strands. Made up of numerous 4 X 4 wraps, and oriented at different angles the TOUGH BOX increases the strength of the connection between ski binding and ski.
POWER CONSTRUCTION is Völkl's longest-running construction. Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Featured in Race Stock skis as well as all Freeskiing models, this construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and sensitivity when combined with the Sensorwood core.
MULTI LAYER WOOD CORE TECHNOLOGY is made up of two wood cores: a denser and more powerful core in the binding mounting area and running along the ski's top layer, and a lighter wood core as a lower layer. Bonded together to create one wood core, and wrapped with the TOUGH BOX construction, this new construction retains stiffness underfoot and allowed for softer butter zones at the tips for precise skiing performance, turning and jumping ease, and an improved binding connection platform.
