K2 Wayback Skis 2011: The K2 Wayback Skis prefer small crowds and rustic huts to busy resorts and grandiose lodges. A superlight wood core with an abundance of carbon fiber makes this one of the lightest mid-fats on the market. It excels at long approaches and pays increasingly greater dividends the further one ventures into the mountains. This year it gets an All-Terrain shovel rocker and when combined with the shallow, progressive sidecut, it’s ultra predictable in high alpine conditions like sastrugi or sun crust, with the added benefit that rocker also makes trail breaking virtually effortless.
The K2 Wayback Skis have a progressive sidecut, which is a combination of two different radii or sidecuts that enhance the versatility of wider waisted skis. Standard sidecut theory is based on using a single radius. This works great on narrower skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions. The use of a progressive sidecut on wider waist skis guarantees improved turn initiation and hard snow performance
All-Terrain Rocker – 70% Camber, 30% Rocker. The All-Terrain Rocker is the most versatile Baseline™ available featuring an elevated tip for variable and soft-snow performance and camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firmer conditions
Flat/notched tail
Torsion Box Cap construction means they are built by a sophisticated molding process that envelopes the core and internal materials with the top layer of the ski. Snowphobic top sheets keep you light with a new snow repellent topsheet. The running surface along the bottom of a ski is hydrophobic by design so K2’s developed a thinner version of the same material to use on the back model specific topsheets.
Use: Variable snow: 50%, Soft snow: 50%
The core is a combination of Aspen, Paulownia, and Bamboo. Aspen is known for its inherent strength and durability, while Paulownia and Bamboo are both eco friendly and lightweight.
