2024 Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 120 Ski Boots Review

The Lowdown

The 2024 Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 120 Ski Boots feature a new BOA closure system on the lower shell. So what does that mean for you? No more hotspots or uneven pressure from standard buckles. The BOA ratchet and cable are noticeably beefier than those on other footwear. I reviewed the 120 flex model, but Salomon will offer this same tech in their 110, 120, and 130 flex versions as well as 95 and 105 flex options for women. Speaking of flex, it also has an adjuster on the spine to make the flex more progressive and smooth without the instep pinch when you’re taking big impacts. I left it in progressive mode for the majority of the review.

The S/Pro Supra BOA 120 also features a great liner with an easily customizable shell. The 100mm last will fit a large number of people. I have a narrow foot and high instep, and usually prefer a 98mm last. The fit was nice and snug out of the box. After a few runs on the boot stock, I was back at the shop getting the liner heat molded and my custom footbeds fitted. After that my feet felt pretty good, although I would need a bit more bootwork for the fit to be totally dialed. Bottom line, this boot is for the aggressive skiers who need a stiff and responsive boot to charge everywhere on the mountain.

Ride Impressions

I’m a mom of 2 kids who ends up spending a lot of time on groomed blue runs and mellow trees. I am also a former racer and professional ski patroller. I like to ski fast and make long turns. I did get to ski a few days without the kids so I had a chance to test the boots in steeper and softer conditions.

I reviewed the Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 120 Ski Boots in size 26.5, which for my foot is a very comfort oriented fit. Given the choice I would size down to the women's 25.5 for a more precise fit. It fits true to size, and fits my foot like most mid volume Salomon ski boots. I do have a higher arch and instep than average and I find Salomon boots typically have a lower instep that can put a lot of pressure on my instep. I skied a few runs with the boot fresh out of the box, I found that for my foot I needed more arch support and a more defined heel pocket. After heat molding the liner and putting my custom footbeds in, the heels and instep felt much better. Speaking of the liner the Exo wrap 4D was very comfortable and let the boot go on and off easily. I did notice it was very easy to over tighten the BOA system and cut off circulation to my feet, but it’s easy to adjust. The BOA ratchet allows for the forefoot width to be adjusted, but I found that by the time the forefoot was tight enough for my narrow feet my instep was being pushed hard enough to lose circulation. 

The S/Pro Supra BOA 120s were fantastic all over the mountain and especially at higher speeds no matter the conditions. Once I switched the flex mode to progressive I didn’t want to change back to direct. The progressive mode allowed for a smoother flex with more forgiveness in the shins. This boot is perfect to ski any part of the mountain for an aggressive skier. All this being said, it is still a 2 piece boot. The BOA replaces the 2 forefoot buckles and allows for easy micro adjustments. I would personally love to try the BOA system on a 3 piece boot like a Dalbello Krypton or a K2 Revolver. Its closest competitors are the Atomic Hawx Prime 120 S GW and the Tecnica Mach1 MV 120.

Who Is It For?

I found this boot to be great all over the mountain. I would put just about any skier who is an advanced intermediate to expert. The 120 flex rewards skiers who are looking to really drive the skis and ski harder than average. The 100mm last is great for those with average width feet and a lower instep.
