Chamonix Guides Company
Born over 200 years ago in 1821, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix is the inescapable reference for mountain lovers. Historically focused on mountaineering, the Compagnie has gradually diversified into a broad range of activities, including skiing and ski touring. Passionate, seasoned technicians, our job is to enable you to experience a human and sport packed adventure in the wilderness of the mountains.
Starting with 34 members, including Jacques Balmat who achieved the first ascent of the Mont Blanc in 1786, today the Company has 160 mountain guides and 60 mountain leaders who have remained highly invested in achieving activities which associate technical excellence and exploration. Each guide has participated, through their activities, in writing the unique history of the Company. Intimately linked to that of the Chamonix Valley, this story is made up of men and women who are above all passionate about the mountains. Remarkable and magnificent, modest and ordinary, joyful or catastrophic, the adventures they experienced have shaped the collective imagination of the mountain.
