Weather in the Olympic Peninsula is variable and unpredictable, no matter the time of year. Different weather conditions exist within the region at the same time. Even in the summer, temperatures may vary from 10-20 degrees, especially along the coast and in higher elevations. Summer will be driest, with fall and spring varying between bluebird days and all-out rain. Winter sees the most precipitation by far.

The western portion experiences much higher levels of precipitation than eastern locations, creating a rain shadow effect. Along the coast and western-facing valleys, typical annual precipitation ranges from 100-170 inches of rain, hence the existence of lush temperate rainforests, such as the Hoh and Quinault. Massive amounts of snow befall the Olympic Mountains; for example, Hurricane Ridge traditionally records 30-35 feet of snow a year.

The eastern slope, meanwhile, is characterized by dryer lowland forests. Precipitation still occurs, but to a much lower degree. Port Angeles, home of the Olympic National Park Headquarters, only averages 25-30 inches a year.

Bring layers, think “waterproof”, and be prepared for a variety of conditions!

FAQ
FAQ
  • How does this voucher work and how do I reserve my campervan dates?
This voucher is valid for a 5-night campervan rental during the dates listed. Before purchasing your voucher, please contact evo to check van availability. Once we’ve confirmed your desired dates and van, you can go ahead and purchase the voucher from evo. Rates vary by season, with peak season lasting until August 31, 2020, prime season lasting from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, 2020, and “favorite” season lasting from Nov. 1 through March 31, 2021. Please do not make any travel arrangements until your van has been confirmed and you have purchased a voucher.
  • Can I book with a deposit or do you need full payment?
If your travel dates are more than 30 days out, you can book with a $500 deposit. The remaining balance will be automatically charged 30 days before your rental start date.
  • Can I begin my trip in Seattle instead of Bainbridge Island?
Yes, you can start and end your trip at the evo store for an additional fee. However, we cannot accommodate SeaTac Airport pick-ups or drop-offs.
  • How do I get to Bainbridge Island?
Getting to Bainbridge Island is easy. If you're coming from SeaTac Airport, you can take the light rail from SeaTac Airport to the Pioneer Square Station and then walk to the Washington State Ferry terminal on the Seattle waterfront (Pier 50). The ferry to Bainbridge leaves about every 50 minutes. You can also Uber or Taxi from the airport to the Seattle ferry terminal, the drive takes about 25 minutes. The ferry ride is about 35 minutes. We offer free pick up from the Bainbridge ferry terminal to our office, provided you have made a reservation for that service.
  • Will you plan my trip itinerary?
We can provide general suggestions and work with you to create an outline that fits your travel objectives.
  • Should I reserve campgrounds in advance?
If you’re headed to the Olympic National Park, Kalaloch and Sol Duc are the only federal campgrounds that accept reservations all year. However, numerous other campgrounds are operating on a first-come, first-served basis. During the busy season, it’s advisable to arrive a bit early and book your campsite, and then go explore. You can also explore Hipcamp and reserve privately owned campsites. Other destinations will require campground research, and you may be able to reserve campground spaces in advance.
