2024 Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 105 W Ski Boots Review

The Lowdown

Whether you’re new to skiing or a seasoned expert, we all know finding boots that fit perfectly can feel like an impossible mission that might just end up breaking the bank or leave you feeling like foot pain is all you’ll ever know. When I got wind of what Salomon had in the works with the Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 105 W that features a new BOA on the lower cuff to replace your classic two forefoot buckles I was definitely intrigued and absolutely stoked to see how they felt, but frankly a bit doubtful of how they would perform overall. To my pleasant surprise, these ski boots are freakin’ phenomenal for me. 

From groomed blues to knee-deep back bowl pow, these burly boots charged down every run like a dream, and the BOA tech held up throughout it all. From far below freezing temps to my boots being caked in snow, operating the BOA is just about as easy as it gets even with gloves on. It’s an aggressive women’s boot that can tackle anything on the mountain…dare I say… comfortably! I would like to note that after numerous ski injuries, I’m not in the game of getting big air on the mountain, so that is one area I would have liked to test the BOA tech out on but wasn't willing to push the limits of my pesky ACL, so we will leave that to the fearless riders willing to send it big in the name of research.

Ride Impressions

The moment I slipped into the Salomon S/Pro Supra BOA 105, got all buckled in, and click, click, clicked the BOA tighter, an audible “wooooooah” came out. As you slowly tighten the BOA coiler, you can feel how it spreads out the pressure across the top of the foot and even provides the sensation of a slight heel lock as the shell wraps in from all directions to simultaneously tighten the whole boot from the Achilles tendon all the way to the toe. I think the sensation I seek out with boots is if it were possible to sink my foot into cement and let it harden into a perfect mold of my foot where it basically feels extremely snug yet still plush so there's no possible way for my foot to slide around and no uncomfortable pressure points, and man did this boot get pretty close to that feeling. The My Exowrap™ 4D Perf liner coupled with this specific shell construction work together to bring a precise fit that I have honestly never felt before right out of the box. The boot liner also has an elastic belt around the forefoot and layered new latex foams that are perfectly snug in all the right areas. I slid in my custom footbeds and added the Velcro spoilers to grab a tiny bit of forward lean, and even though everything pretty much felt incredible right off the bat, I couldn't wait to put everything to the test on snow to truly see how they ride.

So far, I have about 10 full ski days with these girls. That includes days spent speed-checking myself on groomers, zooming through tree runs, boot-packing up Highlands Peak in Aspen to float through some knee-deep fluff sent from the Gods themselves, and a few days playing around in dust on crust. This boot has exceeded my expectations in just about every way. One thing to note is you don’t need to overdo it by tightening the BOA. It’s really easy to crank that thing and lock your feet into a nearly suffocating sensation (which, going back to my cement boot mold dream, I like), but going TOO tight is definitely possible and causes discomfort or numbness after a while. With the numerical measurements on the top of the foot ranging 1-5, I only need to crank the BOA to ~2 and I’m set. Aside from feeling so locked in, the Power Spine in this construction is so noticeable. From the moment I click into my bindings everything from mid-calf down feels like a powerful unit working in unison. This season, I’ve been forcing myself to slow everything down and really perfect my form, so to be able to drive pressure into this boot to get on edge with confidence and then have the seemingly effortless rebound out of the turn is the sensation everyone seeks out when you’re attempting to get in the flow state and WOWZA these boots help me get there. 

The tongue of the boot lays into the liner with Velcro and allows for full customization and instep height adaptation, and you can add foams or remove materials where you need to. I haven't had to do much with the tongue, but if you have your boot on and you pull the tongue too hard, it can come right out which is a little bit of a pain as you have to pull the whole liner out, reattach the tongue piece and then punch the liner back in. That was the only thing I struggled with on these boots. Punching the liner back in is TOUGH. The shell/BOA combo doesn't leave a ton of room for you to crank the shell open to get that liner back in, so I definitely avoid taking the liners out of these if I can, which compared to my previous boots, was a little bit of a nuisance. I also was apprehhensive about how the BOA coiler sticks out father than buckles on the exterior side of the boots and if it will be suseptible to getting hit or knicked by skis etc, but so far it hasn't been a problem at all.

Who Is It For?

This boot is a dream come true for hard-charging gals that are keen on going anywhere and everywhere inbounds, in any conditions. With a solid 105 flex, and lasts ranging from 100-106 depending on size and customization, the opportunity you have to hone in on your perfect fit on top of the boot being great right out of the box, is truly noteworthy. Just to reiterate, this boot might not be the number one pick for fearless rippers who live for getting air and sending it deep while they do so. While the BOAs are burlier than what you’d find on a snowboard boot, I can't quite speak on the maximum force they are able to withstand.
