Sierra at Tahoe is a great South Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard area. It is well known around the region for its laid back vibes, and being family friendly. Located between Kirkwood and Lake Tahoe itself, Sierra can be sometimes overlooked in favor of areas like Heavenly and Kirkwood. This helps to keep the crowds away from the more than 2,000 acre resort. The mountain offers something for every ability of skier and snowboarder, from its dedicated learning area to the experts only Huckleberry Bowl. Just follow their motto “Certified Unserious” and you’re bound to have a good time.
Beginner skiers and snowboarders have lots of great options when exploring Sierra at Tahoe. There is a dedicated learning area off of the Easy Rider lift for those folks making their first turns. What makes Sierra at Tahoe’s beginner terrain unique, however, is the access to the mountain’s summit and sunny backside. This lets skiers and snowboarders explore more of the mountain as their confidence rises.
Intermediate skiers and snowboarders will find the most fun riding off of the West Bowl Express chairlift and the back side El Dorado lift. The runs here are good cruisers and offer the opportunity to duck in and out of the tree to find powder stashes.
Advanced skiers and snowboarders will have a great time exploring Sierra at Tahoe’s awesome trees and glades. The Grandview area on the front of the mountain has a nice selection of well spaced trees and natural terrain features to jump off of and jib on. Depending on the snowfall, this area can be a playground of pillows and drops. The West Bowl trees can be really fun, too. Experts will hope that Huckleberry Bowl is open. This backcountry-esque area has cliffs, chutes and pillows that are fun, steep and challenging. A large base and safe avalanche conditions are needed for this area to be open, however.
Sierra at Tahoe has some of the best terrain parks in Lake Tahoe, too. With mountain ambassadors like Olympians Hannah Teter, Jamie Anderson, and Maddie Bowman it’s obvious that Sierra is a topnotch park destination.

These restaurants have great decks, which are the spot to be on sunny days. At the top of Grandview, the 360 Smokehouse lives up to its name with a full wraparound deck. Sierra at Tahoe has an amazing combination of weather. The ski and snowboard area sees over 400” of average annual snowfall as well as 274 days of sunshine a year. This combination is hard to beat. Powder is plentiful throughout the winter, but warm temps and sun can turn it heavy pretty quickly.
