Tamarack Skiing & Snowboarding Resort Guidee

Tamarack might not have the storied past of older ski resorts, but that’s sort of the point. It’s a modern all-inclusive, year-round mountain resort with the ski terrain and amenities to match. The resort is located near Cascade Lake, just 90 minutes from Boise, Idaho, but it feels a whole world removed from the hustle of the big city. There’s something for everyone at Tamarack, from rafting, boating, mountain biking, and ziplining in the summer, along with 300 inches of snow annually and 1100 acres of skiable terrain all winter long. Idaho has always been the home state of skiing in the US, and Tamarack upholds that legacy with great views, great snow, and fun for the whole family.

Mountain Overview

Tamarack’s inbounds terrain spans the east-facing slopes of West Mountain, with three quad chairlifts delivering skiers to the summit at 7,660’. From the summit skiers and snowboarders can drop into 2,760 of elevation change as they slash their way back down to the base area.

The upper mountain is composed mostly of steep, expert terrain, and is accessed by the Summit Express chair. It’s a go-to for experienced skiers looking for exciting terrain on powder days. But for less advanced skiers the Tamarack Express loads right from the base area and delivers skiers and riders to a variety of beginner and intermediate friendly runs. And for the first-timers, the Discovery Chair and Mutton Buster Carpet lift offer a great introduction to the sport in a safe, controlled environment. There are several terrain parks off of the Tamarack Express chair.

If you’re looking to explore more gladed tree skiing, the Wildwood Express chair serves the northern boundary of the resort and has a nice variety of groomed runs and fun tree skiing. It accesses a different drainage than the other lifts and offers a nice change of pace.

Local Food Picks

Tamarack is all about the all-inclusive resort experience and that means plenty of dining options. We’d recommend starting your day at Clearwater Coffee, they serve made-in-Idaho DOMA coffee, and also have grab-and-go breakfast options. If you want to grab lunch on the hill, visit the The Rendezvous. Located mid-mountain is there to feed your ski day taco cravings, with pizza and bowla, too. And for a nice dinner afterwards it’s hard to beat The Reserve restaurant. Their food is first class and they’ve got the perfect apres ski cocktail selection.
