The Weston Hatchet Splitboard takes the Hatchet and, well, splits it. A tactical tool for acting the fool, there's nothing like getting way out yonder with a floaty freestyle twin. A little bit short and a little bit wide, this board has all the float of a big pow board but loves landing switch and spinning--it's a freestyle board for motivated powder hounds, made for spinning off cheese wedges into untouched landings, getting creative in natural terrain, and having a blast in the snow. The Hatchet split is backcountry gadgetry done right.
Twin Powder Camber – Symmetric reverse-camber tip and tails provide maximum float in deep snow, while giving the ability to land or ride switch. A mild camber underfoot provides stability and control.
Flex Rating – 7 (1 Soft - 10 Stiff)
Twinish / Volume Shifted – This board is designed to be ridden shorter while providing comparable float and near-twin ride. The surface area of a larger board but in a smaller size creates more float with easier maneuverability but slightly reduced edge hold.
71% Poplar / 26% Paulownia / 3% Bamboo
Flax Touring Bracket and Inserts Plates – Weston places an additional layer of flax under the splitboard inserts and under the ski binding area for improved screw retention. Flax has the added benefit of providing some damping which helps in that area since it takes abuse with every step, plus it’s natural and sustainable.
2x Tip to Tail S-Weave Carbon – This advanced weaving of carbon through the core creates more pop.
Tri-axial Glass – Multi-axis, stitched fiberglass laminate that offers a precise and responsive ride in any terrain or snow conditions.
Polyurethane – Polyurethane is poured during construction to form a single, unified piece of sidewall wrapping around the entire core for increased strength and durability. Because of this process, it also creates less waste material than other sidewall options.
Sintered Durasurf 4001 – The gold standard in bases. The 4000-series sintered bases have a higher density than other options on the market, and are therefore more durable. Additionally, it absorbs more wax, making for a faster and smoother ride. 4000-series PTEX is usually reserved for only top-of-the-line boards due to a higher manufacturing cost, but at Weston it’s the minimum standard.
Karakoram TipLoc Clips
Karakoram Ultraclip 2.0 – This system brings the two sections of your board together with force, creating the most responsive ride possible with added tension and adjustability to prevent slipping over time.
Skin Attachment – Tip holes (for Pomoca Z-Clips) and tail notches.
