Looking to throw down for some epic adventures, and unwilling to carry any more weight than necessary to feel safe in real-deal terrain? The new Black Crows Mentis Freebird Skis may be the ride you seek. At 80mm underfoot, the Mentis FB isn't in the rando race zone, but it still tips the scales at ~ 1,000 grams per ski, which makes it viable for big vertical over many days. As with the other lightest Black Crows Freebirds, it uses a Paulownia core and carbon/fiberglass layup with a Titanal plate for binding retention underfoot, but unlike some other ultralight skis, bomber downhill performance is a priority.
Slight Tip Rocker – Stability, small pivot, good edge control, planing.
Long Classic Camber – Large snow/ski contact for carving alpine style turns.
Solid Underfoot / Progressively Softer Towards Tip and Tail – Comfortable and effective.
Medium Sidecut – Stability at high speed, great balance between firmness and maneuverability.
Full Paulownia Wood Core
Mixed Glass / Carbon Fiber
Titanal Plate in Binding Mount Area
