The G3 ION Alpine Touring Bindings are beautifully engineered and realized tech bindings that put G3 firmly at the forefront of the tech revolution. With the ION, G3 has moved away from the ONYX model and now features default "open" toe wings as well as a rotating heel. A number of features set the ION apart from the competition, including a ski pole accessible clearance channel to remove snow and ice from under the toe wings, retracting step in guides in the toepiece, ski brakes that will stay deployed after switching into tour mode if you like, and spring-loaded fore-aft heel movement to accommodate ski flex. To top it off, the ION easily wins the tech binding "Most Attractive" contest with its polished Titanium and Orange color scheme. If you're looking for a tech touring binding with the convenience and versatility you've missed in the past, the G3 ION is your binding.
Industry-leading Jaw Retention – Stronger springs in the ION toe jaw mechanism allow the binding to be skied aggressively in the unlocked mode.
Wide Freeride Mount – A wider, 40 mm footprint in the toe unit screws is 30% wider than the traditional pattern, for better leverage with wide skis.
Snow Clearing Channel – A space under the toe wings is large enough to fit a ski pole tip in, forcing snow and ice out - this is a common cause of unwanted tech toe releases.
Step-In Guidance – When the binding jaws are open, guidance tabs allow the user to accurately place their ISO 9523 boot toe for step in; the tabs retract when the binding is closed.
No-Slip PU Lined Toe Socket
Energy Absorbing Heel – The ION heelpiece is set with no gap between boot heel and heelpiece, but moves rearward in response to pressure so your ski can flex naturally without putting pressure on the toe unit.
One Tool Release Adjustment – Both lateral and vertical release values are adjustable with a Pozidrive #3 screwdriver.
Bi-Directional Heel Rotation – ION heels can be rotated in either the clockwise or counterclockwise position to tour, and the flip-up lifters work equally well in either position.
Manually Stowable Brake – When you rotate the heel into touring mode, the brake can either be clicked into stowed position by hand or left in the deployed position for security against potential runaway skis. The brake will retract into a locked, stowed position when first stepped on.
Boot Length Adjustment Range – 22 mm
Ski Crampons Available Separately – 85 mm, 105 mm, and 130 mm
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.
Not compatible with boots that employ a metatarsal flex zone, such as the Scarpa F1, F3, Terminator X and TX Pro
