These skis varry in width from wide, powder-oriented skis for skiing Alaska spines to narrower, mixed condition skis for ripping the beat up headwall at your local mountain. Skis in this category tend to be on the stiffer side, often with more rocker in the tip and less in the tail. Alpine Touring Also known as backcountry skis, alpine touring (AT) skis are designed for going uphill as well as downhill. These skis are typically light for their width and many feature fittings that accept climbing skins. AT skis vary in width and weight, with the wider heavier versions usually used for winter/deep snow touring and the skinnier, lighter skis usually used for spring/summer/long distance touring.

The contact points on skis with this profile are closer towards the middle of the ski than a fully cambered ski, but still not underfoot. The cambered midsection provides a longer effective edge on hardpack, increasing edge hold and stability, while the rockered tip and tail provide floatation in deeper snow and allow the ski to initiate and release from turns easier.

This second generation takes the revolutionary hybrid touring performance of the original Shift to the next level with a new Power Block AFD, improved brake lock, and key areas beefed up for improved strength and durability. The new AFD features an all-new design with an aluminum ‘Power Block’ insert that eliminates slippage within the mechanism, providing improved security and 30% better power transfer. The toe wings and locking lever have both been reinforced, and the brake mechanism has firmed up to prevent accidental brake deployment in uphill mode. Power Block AFD (Anti-Friction Device) – Contiunuously adjustable without steps, and incorporating a new aluminum Power Block that delivers an impressive 30% increase in lateral power transfer.
Dual Mode Toe – Easily converts from ski to tour mode and back

Locking Brakes – Sturdier, more reliable brake lever construction that improves locking and avoids disengagement.

Hike and Ride Switch – Lever at toe shifts between hike and ski mode.
Dual Height Climbing Aid – Tall option is now 4mm higher.
Accessing Toe for Touring – 1. Pull back on block between toe wings to open tech arms. 2. Depress front lever to widen arms to step in. 3. Pull up on lever to lock arms securely for skinning.
Preparing Heel for Touring – Pull back on the brake pad and fix the brake in the "up" position by stepping down on the pad.
Boot Compatibility
Multi Norm Certified (MN) – Compatible with all adult boot sole types, including ISO 5355 Alpine, ISO 9523 Touring, WTR (Walk to Ride) and GripWalk.
Requires Boot with Full Heel and Toe Lugs – Not compatible with boots like the Dynafit Hoji Pro Tour and TLT, Atomic Backland, Salomon X-Alp and Arc'teryx Procline, among others. These boots have shortened or non-existent lugs and will not fit into the Shift in downhill mode.
