The BCA Float E2 45 Airbag Pack is a tech-fueled upgrade to the legendary Float airbag packs, employing the Alpride E2 engine with a supercapacitor rather than an air cylinder. It performs better in cold temps, releases energy faster, and is much lighter and smaller than traditional rechargeable batteries. The E2 System can also be recharged in the field using 2AA batteries. The Float E2 45 is the largest in BCA's capacitor-powered collection, with enough carrying capacity for multi-day or hut trips. Skip the hassle of emptying your cylinders before you get on the plane and re-filling them far from home, and join the Supercapacitor Revolution with the E2 45.

Alpride E2 Supercapacitor Engine – BCA’s new Float E2 avalanche airbag packs use an Alpride E2 supercapacitor system to store energy that powers the compressor upon deployment. Supercapacitors store and release energy based on electromechanical properties rather than a chemical reaction like in rechargeable batteries. This makes supercapacitor performance much more reliable in cold temperatures. For the same reason, the energy stored in a supercapacitor releases faster when activated for deployment. The new E2 engine is 40 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the existing Alpride E1 system, with a 162-liter airbag. Like the E1, the E2 is TSA-approved for hassle-free airline travel.

Warning – Wearing an airbag backpack is no guarantee of survival in an avalanche. Backcountry travelers are highly advised to educate themselves in snow stability assessment, route finding, and companion rescue and carry all of the conventional avalanche gear in addition to the airbag.
AA Batteries for Additional Deployments – In addition to the rechargeable supercapacitor storage, you can install two AA batteries to allow for additional deployments in the field. The batteries also help keep the supercapacitors at full charge when not in use.
