The ABS® Vario Large Base Unit is the best solution for the snow sport enthusiast who frequents slide prone areas and wants the flexibility of being able to move the airbag "guts" between various size packs. The base unit consists of the integrated ABS® TwinBag system, which can then be connected to any zip-on bag with a volume between 8 and 55 L, making the Vario incredibly versatile. Note that in ABS® terminology, "Airbag Inside" or "ABS® Inside" indicates a fixed airbag system that cannot be moved; this Large Base Unit is compatible only with the growing number of Vario packs made by ABS® and other manufacturers.

Travelling with Airbag Packs – At this time, flying with charged (filled) cartridges or activation handles is prohibited from North American airports. You should be prepared to demonstrate that both your cylinder and handle are empty / have been discharged. Contact your airline for further information.
Warning – Wearing an airbag backpack is no guarantee of survival in an avalanche. Backcountry travelers are highly advised to educate themselves in snow stability assessment, route finding, and companion rescue and carry all of the conventional avalanche gear in addition to the airbag.
Used Activation Units – Spent activation units may only be refilled by ABS®; after deployment you should return the empty canister and trigger handle to an authorized dealer or ABS® where you will receive a credit toward the purchase of a full cartridge.
