    Day number 2
Awake to the beauty of Argentina surrounded by steep mountain peaks and vibrant blue water. Return to Calafate by 5pm and to rest and gear up for the trip north in the morning.

Meet your guide at the bus station and drop off your belongings at the partner lodge in El Chaltén. Depart for an afternoon hike to Mirador de las Aguilas. This scenic 1-hour hike takes you through lush forest before arriving to the top where you'll see panoramic views of El Chaltén, including the Fitz Roy range. Depart from the hotel and head west along the Fitz Roy river en route to Laguna Torre and Grand Glacier. At the end of the valley, see Laguna Torre, its glacier, and the famous Mt. Trip Planning

While the weather in El Chaltén can be unpredictable, in general,  it is a semi-arid environment with occasional light precipitation. It is essential to be prepared because the weather can change instantly from sunny to stormy. The warmer temperatures are recorded in the summer from November to March. Highs are typically in the 60s during the day and 40s at night. It is not uncommon to experience frost in the summer so always bring warm layers. In the winter, temperatures stay in the 40s during the day and drop to below freezing at night.

You are responsible for carrying your backpack during the entirety of your trip. OneSeed guides will carry group gear like tents, sleeping pads, and cookware. Some days we will return to the same lodge and others we will walk to our next accommodation, so please bring a small packable day pack and 40L+ bag for all of your gear. You will be staying at the same hotel before and after your trek in Calafate. Leaving an extra bag at either hotel during your trek is free of charge.

FAQ
FAQ
  • Is my departure guaranteed to run?
OneSeed Expeditions guarantees all trip departures. Please make sure you are registered with OneSeed before you book airfare.
  • I'd like a private trip, is that an option?
Yes, we can accommodate private trip requests. Please reach out to us if you're interested, and we'll be able to provide pricing and further details.
  • Is this trek for me? How should I train for my trek?
This expedition requires above-average physical fitness. No technical skills are required, and first-time trekkers are welcome. While the elevation is not much of a factor on this trip, the highest elevation you will reach on your trek is 3,838 ft, daily mileage can range from 6-13 miles and 5-10 trekking hours per day. Taking training hikes that mimic the mileage and amount of time you will be trekking in Patagonia is recommended. We always recommend that travelers break in their hiking boots before the expedition. If you would like to guarantee a private departure please contact us for rates.
  • What if I need to cancel or postpone my trip?
We are doing our best to offer increased flexibility during this time, and will refer to OneSeed Expeditions’ change and cancellation policy. Any traveler may reschedule their expedition, no questions asked, with a minimum of 45 days advance notice. Expeditions that include flights and other non-refundable elements are subject to the fees imposed by the partner airline in addition to any other nonrefundable costs not to exceed $300. Trip credit is valid for 12 months from the date of change and may be applied to any future posted expedition dates for the originally purchased expedition. You do not have to travel within those 12 months, only pick a date, subject to availability. As for cancellations, if you cancel 45 days or more prior to your scheduled departure, you will be reimbursed the full amount less $1,000.00 per traveler. If you cancel 30 - 44 days prior to your scheduled departure, you will be reimbursed the full amount less the non-refundable deposit of $1,000 per traveler or 50% of the total value of your expedition, whichever is greater. Within 30 days of your scheduled expedition, your adventure is nonrefundable.
  • Can I have my own room?
Yes, the single supplement fee for this trip is $150. Please let OneSeed know that you would like to request single rooms.
  • How do I meet up with the group?
If you arrive on Day 1 and depart on Day 8 of your trip, OneSeed will arrange for airport transfers. Pickup will be arranged to efficiently transfer clients with flight times in close proximity (generally within one hour of each other). If you plan to arrive before the scheduled start date or stay past the end date of your trip, you will need to coordinate your own airport transfer or purchase a trip extension through OneSeed.
  • Do I need a visa? And what about passport requirements?
Visas are not required for US citizens for tourist visits less than 90 days. Please keep your passport with you at all times during your expedition. Visit the State Department website for Argentina entry/exit requirements. Your passport must be valid for six months after your country departure date. It should also have at least one blank page for any necessary stamps.
  • What happens if my trip is altered due to unforseen circumstances?
Per the Assumption of Risk and Liability Waiver Agreement, if your expedition must be altered at any point, you are responsible for any additional costs. Canceled flights and transportation strikes happen. We do our best to ensure that your experience is unaltered by handling the situation efficiently and smoothly. For complete terms and conditions, see here. We recommend reviewing optional trip cancellation and interruption insurance to cover expenses in these instances. Some instances that have come up are: A twisted ankle one week before a trip Power outages in the Atlanta airport leaving travelers stranded Burst appendix! Earthquakes or floods cutting a trip short
  • Do I need any immunizations or medicine?
Talk to your physician and follow recommended CDC guidelines.
  • Will we need to filter water?
The water along the trail is safe to drink, whether that's straight from the tap or off a glacier.
  • What food should I expect to eat on the trail?
Food on the trail is rich in carbohydrates and protein since you'll be burning calories like a champ. Breakfast may include items such as oatmeal, toast, jam/cheese, tea, and coffee. Lunch is usually a sandwich (with a vegetarian option), fruit, snack bar, and some chocolate. Dinners may include red or white meat / a vegetarian option, pasta, potatoes, rice, veggies, soup, and dessert.
  • Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
OneSeed is able to accommodate most allergies and dietary preferences. Please let evo and OneSeed know of any restrictions upon booking. We recommend any vegan travelers bring extra protein bars.
  • What are the accommodations like on the trail?
On the trail, you will be sleeping in tents and a basic mountain lodge on the last night with shared dorm-style bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities.
  • What camping gear is provided and what do I need to bring?
Tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads are included and your guide will carry them for you. Please bring a backpacking pillow, a sleeping bag liner (optional) and a headlamp with extra batteries.
  • Does someone carry my pack?
You are responsible for carrying your backpack during the entirety of your trip. OneSeed guides will carry group gear like tents, sleeping pads, and cookware.
  • Can I leave some of my luggage in the hotel during the trek?
You will be staying at the same hotel before and after your trek in Calafate. Leaving an extra bag at either hotel during your trek is free of charge.
  • I see that 10% of my trip cost is invested locally, what does that mean?
At OneSeed they believe that adventure and entrepreneurial hustle go hand in hand. Whether you’re trekking through Patagonia or taking the next step towards financial independence, it’s an endeavor that takes dedication and risk. That’s why when you travel with OneSeed, 10% of your trip cost is invested in local entrepreneurs - empowering our fellow risk-takers to launch or expand their business. OneSeed partners with local microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the countries where they operate. They invest 10 percent of our total revenue in these partners, who in turn lend this seed capital to small-scale entrepreneurs as collateral-free, shared liability microcredit. Entrepreneurs repay the loan over the course of the loan term as they launch or expand their business.
  • Do I need to tip my guide?
Tips are always appreciated. Averages below are based on per person recommendations. Head Guide: $6-8/day Assistant Guide: $2-5/day
  • What will the weather be like?
Weather in Patagonia is always unpredictable which is why we recommend a slightly more comprehensive packing list. A sunny warm day can turn on a dime and end in rain or snow. It never hurts to prep for both!
  • How many people will be on my expedition?
We generally cap our group departure dates at around 10, though some may be slightly larger depending on the expedition. We guarantee all group departure dates whether there are 1 or 10 travelers signed up. We recommend asking our team how many people are in your group when you sign up for a departure date. Keep in mind, travelers may join or cancel at the last minute! If you are the only one in your group, we are happy to work with you on changing your travel dates if no deposits have been made.
  • Any other tips?
We always ask that you stay safe on the trail by drinking plenty of water, eating well, and communicating openly with your guide about any issues that arise. Be sure to take care of your belongings, be respectful of your travel companions, practice your Spanish with people you meet along the way, and respect the natural landscape that you're exploring.
  • Do I need travel insurance?
While it is not required, we always recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.

Every detail was taken care of and the local guides treated us like family. Getting to know the guides and seeing the mountain lakes and glaciers were my favorite.
