Experience the beauty and culture of Lesotho. This trip is welcome to all genders, and your participation supports World Ride’s mission to empower women globally through mountain biking.
Powered by our local partners at World Ride, this ten-day mountain bike trip to Lesotho is designed to show you some of the highlights of what this beautiful African country has to offer! On this trip, we will spend time riding the best trails in the country, riding with the local women, and experiencing the first Pump for Peace pump tracks. This will be our kick off trip to Lesotho and we will have a female guide-in-training as part of our trip.

We are very excited to partner with SHREDLY to offer this opportunity to visit Lesotho! SHREDLY has been a long time supporter of World Ride and we could not be more thrilled to have them join us on our first trip to beautiful Lesotho. Thank you for joining us on this once-in-a-lifetime experience that will help to provide the opportunity for women in Lesotho to experience the sport of mountain biking!

FAQ
FAQ
  • When and how do I meet up with the group?
Please make sure your flight arrives into Maseru (airport code: MSU) early in the day on the arrival day (the first day of the trip) or arrive a day early. If you decide to arrive early, please let us know and we can arrange for an extra night of accommodation for you. If you plan to fly into Johannesburg instead, please note we can provide a roundtrip transfer to/from for an additional $125. A driver will be at the airport waiting for you when you land in Maseru if you arrive the morning of the trip. They will be at the exit of baggage claim/customs and will have a sign with your name on it. If you are traveling with a bike bag, they will be able to easily spot you. If not, make sure to look out for them. If you are arriving the day before the trip, please send us your hotel information so that the driver knows where to pick you up.
  • What skill/experience level is required for this trip?
For skill level, this trip is rated a 3 out of 5, meaning: you are comfortable and confident on all intermediate level trails you have ridden. You can confidently ride up and down small to medium rocks and roots. You have good brake control on steep sections and can take flowy corners at a moderate speed. You are comfortable with most switchbacks and tight turns. For fitness level, this trip is rated a 3 out of 5, meaning: You ride 3-5 times per week, and can ride comfortably on rides that are 3 hours in length. You might not be the fastest but you can climb 1500-2000 ft during a ride.
  • Is my departure guaranteed? What if I’d like a private trip?
No, a minimum of 4 guests is required to operate each trip, please wait to make travel arrangements and book flights until you have received confirmation from World Ride. Please get in touch if you are interested in a private trip with less than this number.
  • Should I bring my own bike? Do you offer rentals?
For this trip, we highly recommend that you bring your own bike! We have a lot of experience traveling with bikes, so please let us know any questions you might have. Some of the airlines have baggage policies that allow a bike as one of your checked bags. Make sure to check your airline's baggage policy before booking your flight. We do recommend bringing your own bike for this trip. This trip is on technically challenging trails at high elevations, and we highly recommend a full suspension bike. Rental bikes are very limited in Lesotho, with available make and model options varying.
  • What are the accommodations like?
While in Lesotho, we will be staying in hotels in multiple spots around the country. Accommodations will be double occupancy.
  • Do I need a visa?
There is no need for a visa if traveling to Lesotho for less than 30 days. When you arrive in the country, you will go through customs and immigration with your passport. Make sure your passport is current and does not expire within 6 months of your travel date.
  • What will the food be like? Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Food is not included in the tour. Some rides will stop at restaurants for lunch while others will stop for a post ride meal. Local food includes corn based dishes, meats and vegetables. Please let us know in advance of any dietary restrictions, and we’ll do our best to help accommodate.
  • What is the maximum number of guests per trip?
There is a maximum of 10 guests per trip departure.
  • Is there a minimum age required for this trip?
Yes, the minimum age to join this trip is 16 years old (accompanied by a parent or guardian).
  • How does luggage transfer and storage work?
Your luggage will be transferred between camps as needed, and there will be secure storage for bike bags and boxes if you bring your own bike.
  • How can I help with a gear donation?
World Ride trips help to support the growth of women's mountain biking in Botswana. For these trips, we can accept some gear donations (they will have to be transported across the country to where our ladies ride). Donations that you can bring to Lesotho to leave with the ladies is very much appreciated! Things that are needed include: bikes (getting a new one? Travel with your bike and then leave it there!), helmets, pedals, shoes, tires, gloves, and/or hydration packs.
  • Should I tip my guide?
Gratuity is not included in your trip and can make a big difference for your guide. We recommend around $10 which is around $150 ZAR per guest per day. These get split between your guide and driver. If you would like to tip more, your guide and driver will very much appreciate it!
  • Will I be able to use a credit card, or should I have cash?
Some places accept credit cards in Lesotho, but it is mostly a cash based culture. It is recommended to get Lesotho currency from an ATM once you arrive in Maseru. You can also exchange US dollars at a foreign currency exchange.
  • Do you require or recommend travel insurance for this trip?
Travel insurance is recommended for your trip that includes medical. Typically bikes are not 100% covered by travel insurance policies. Many homeowners or renters policies do cover bikes while traveling abroad, so be sure to check into this before the trip. If you wish to get extra insurance for your bike, we recommend Velosurance. For standard trip insurance, if you do not wish to insure your bike or have bike coverage from another policy, we recommend World Nomads.
  • What if I need to cancel?
evo will refer to World Ride’s cancellation policy. Please note your $300 deposit is non-refundable and can be put toward any other World Ride trip in the future. If you wish to change to a different trip, you must submit a written request 60 days or more before your scheduled departure. Cancellations within 60 days are non-refundable.
Testimonials
The riding was superb. I found it fun and beautiful and challenging, but for the most part within my skill level. I loved the trails and terrain. It was a perfect combo of riding and cultural experience. For me, I loved every minute (except for when three donkeys tried to push me over a cliff) - but that makes for a great story
